Earlier this week, Hillary Clinton lost the US election, her ambitions of becoming America’s first female President shattered.
And with Donald Trump named as the 45th President of the United States, it’s left many of us wondering what this means for women across the globe.
But it seems all is not lost, as women are still making progress in the fight to shatter the glass ceiling. And the Duchess of Cornwall just proved that much needed positive change is afoot.
On a recent trip to the United Arab Emirates with husband Prince Charles, Camilla debuted her all-female security team. And they are bound to inspire you.
Clarence House shared an image of her team via Instagram and it received thousands of positive messages in response. Hailed as the ultimate display of 'girl power', followers rushed to comment. One user replied, “This is badass!” Another wrote, “A reminder of equality and tolerance much needed at a time like this!"
According to Emirates Woman, the women pictured are just five of 50 female members of the UAE’s presidential guard and include Shaima al Kaabi, Basima al Kaabi, Nisreen al Hamawi, Salama al Remeithi and Hannan al Hatawi. Trained in martial arts and combat, the women were chosen especially for Camilla’s visit.
The Duchess told the Daily Mail, “It's fascinating. It is quite extraordinary to have them. I have never had four women looking after me [and] they are the most incredible women.”
And it’s not merely martial arts they have high on their CVs, as three of the women recently conquered Mount Everest in just sixteen days.
The Royals were visiting the UAE in order to promote religious tolerance and support women in leadership.
And if this photograph is anything to go by, women across the globe are tackling the plight of sexism one step at a time.
