Conventional dolls are often criticized for not being the best role models for young girls, thanks to their unrealistic body proportions and plastic fantasic message.

An artist has highlighted how powerful dolls could be, by transforming Bratz dolls into inspiring women such as J.K. Rowling, Malala Yousafzai and Frida Kahlo.

In a post on the websiteBored Panda she explains why she decided to create dolls that aren't modelled on popstars or Hollywood fiction characters: "there are real-life people who are heroes too, with inspiring stories of courage, intelligence, strength and uniqueness. Could children learn about and be inspired by them through toys?"

She continues: "In this project, I repainted and reclothed the manufactured dolls into the likeness of real, inspiring women – as young girls. As a parent, I’d love for my child to play with a young J.K. Rowling or Malala and have conversations about them."
