The Oscars are on the way! For now, we can only speculate as to who will win and what the stars will be wearing, but there are some things we know for certain. Here are the craziest Oscar facts that you need to know...
1. The loser's gift bag is worth £53,000
The 20 nominees who miss out in the acting and directing categories will get their hands on gifts like luxury travel vouchers, art, wine and jewellery from 59 brands. Delivered in a box the next day, the aptly named 'Everybody Wins at the Oscars Nominee Gift Bag' is surely the perfect pick-me-up for the morning after the Oscars. In 2005 the goodie bag was worth double what it is today, but the Internal Revenue Service declared the gifts taxable.
2. This year's goodie bag includes herbal tea lollipops and a vibrator
The consoled stars will also get their hands on healthy popcorn, NapAnywhere head-support pillows and a home spa system. Last year's unlucky nominees left the awards with weight-loss pills, a robotic hair transplant system worth $16,000, and The Orgasm Shot, a procedure which “rejuvenates and enhances the genital tissue of a woman”. Not just your standard slice of cake in a napkin then.
3. None of the 2014 Oscar winners were nominated this year
Lupita Nyong'o, Cate Blanchett, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto all picked up a statue in 2014 but none received a nom this year.
4. Walt Disney is the Oscars' most honoured
Mr Disney won 26 awards in his lifetime and has been nominated 59 times.
5. The Oscar wins don't actually own their statues
Every Oscar winner has signed an agreement that if they wish to sell their award (why would you ever?), they must first offer it to the Academy for $1. Before this rule existed, Steven Spielberg bought Bette Davis' Oscar for $578,000.
6. Stars only get 45 seconds to make thier speech
After the ceremony took over 4 hours in 2002, the Academy implemented the 45 second rule. Stars that haven't finished thanking their co-stars, director and mum in time are cut off by the orchestra.
7. Over half of this year's nominated actors are first timers
Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones, Emma Stone, Rosamund Pike , Benedict Cumberbatch, Steve Carell, J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette all received their first ever nominations this year.
8. This year Meryl Streep could become tied for the record of most ever Oscars wins
Nominated for her nineteenth time this year, if Meryl wins the award for Actress in a supporting role for* Into the Woods,* she will be tied with Katherine Hepburn - the only person to have ever received 4 Oscars for acting.
9. Leonardo Dicaprio STILL doesn't have an Oscar
11 years since the first of his four nominations, Leo is yet to win an Oscar. Not being nominated this year has dramatically decreased his chances of taking a statue home this year. It will happen one day Leo!
10. Eminem has an Oscar
In 2003, the rapper won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. He was so sure he wouldn't win that, when the award was announced, he was at home, sleeping and watching cartoons with his daughter.
