The Blue Peter Time Capsule is The Ultimate 90s Throwback

Rewind to 1998. It’s peak 90s; Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets has just been published, Monica and Chandler are getting together on FRIENDS and we’re all sporting crop tops, chokers and bad highlights.

It’s a year to remember. Which is why Blue Peter decided to commemorate the occasion by burying a time capsule filled with classic 90s memorobillia. (probs, maybe).

The capsule was buried 15ft under the Millennium Dome, now the O2, by former presenters Richard Bacon and Katy Hill where it was meant to remain untouched until 2050.

Fast-forward to 2017 and builders working on the O2 accidentally unearth the treasure. Literally – according to a source 'nobody realised it was the Blue Peter capsule. The boys thought they’d struck gold'

'They were going at it with anything they could find — hammers, shovels, the lot.

'At one point a bloke in a forklift squished it with the machine’s teeth.'

Apparently the capsule was then dumped in a skip before anybody realised that it could be important.

But it’s all good now. And even though the capsule has taken quite a bit of a bashing, all items – which were chosen by viewers – are intact.

The BBC said: 'We are looking forward to sharing these memories with viewers and making new ones as we rebury the capsule until 2050 as originally planned.'

So….what’s inside the capsule?!

•A set of the ever-coveted Blue Peter badges. (Remember they were the epitome of cool in year 3)

•A Tamagotchi

•A Spice Girls CD (yep, an actual CD)

•The Teletubbies

•Rollerblades

•A picture of Tony Blair donning a high vis vest

•Stamps

•Coins

•A Roald Dahl book

•Some roofing felt from the Millennium Dome (because, why not?)
