Brunch has come on a long way since its invention as a hangover cure in 1930s New York. The Insta-staple is easily the nation’s favourite meal of the week, bridging the gap between breakfast and lunch and serving up Basic Bitch favourites from avocado on toast to Eggs Benedict (not to mention bottomless Prosecco and Mimosas). Whether you’re looking for the newest take on a brunch classic (soft-shell crab Eggs Benny, anyone?) or the most Instagrammable latte (Palm Vaults, we’re looking at you) these are the restaurants you’ll find the Grazia team in come 1pm every Saturday or Sunday…

The Table

When you're next looking for a brunch venue for pre or post-visiting the Tate Modern, make sure you head to The Table. We hate going to restaurants that are quiet – whether that's due to lack of clientele or lack of music – but The Table is loud, buzzy and just busy enough, with the open kitchen and sharing tables adding to the atmosphere. The menu comprises something for every palette – whether you're a sweet tooth who wants buttermilk waffles doused in chocolate sauce and ice cream, or a traditional egg benedict fan, or starving and in need of a full English, they've got it. Big hitters include the Stack, which perilously balances ham hock and chorizo baked beans, poached eggs and hollandaise on a bagel, as well as the breakfast bruschetta, which includes avocado, bacon and poached eggs (and comes highly recommended). Oh, and they do burgers and salads too, just in case you're not really the classic brunch fan (seriously, why are you here?). There's cocktails too, of course, and a great selection at that – try the pineapple express for a fun twist on the mimosa.

Farm Girl

Love brunch AND clean eating? Then Farm Girl is your friend. The Portobello Road café specialises in the kind of moreish Instagram-friendly dishes you're used to seeing fitness bloggers and influencers whipping up from scratch at home, including blue matcha lattes, buckwheat pancakes, acai bowls and millet porridge. The colourful setting adds to the pretty aesthetic of the place, with turquoise tiled walls, pink salt and oatmeal napkins providing the perfect backdrop for that braggy picture of #healthyeating.

Rail House Café

If you're a fan of the Riding House Café, the always-busy, perma-booked brunch venue behind Oxford Circus, then let us introduce you to its sibling brand, Rail House Café. Located in Victoria's buzzy new restaurant district, Sir John Milton Square, it transports Riding House's signature rustic-chic décor and international menu to a bigger venue, with a much-needed sofa area for reading the weekend papers, a private room for bigger groups, and a bustling bar for those popping in for a Rail Mary. Our top picks from the menu include the mac and cheese, which was topped with crispy onions, as well as the mighty Burgerdict, a twist on the classic benedict which combines a burger with hollandaise sauce, bacon and a poached egg. There are also roast options if you're there on a Sunday.

Sea Containers

Perfect for a spot of people-watching – particularly if you sit outside on a sunny day – this Southbank restaurant is part of the trendy Mondrian hotel. The brunch menu caters to every appetite – whether you want waffles topped with syrup, ice cream and bacon, American-style, or a braised beef burrito stuffed with a sunny side up egg, rice, beans, guac and salsa. Drinks-wise, you can wash down your meal with bottomless fizz (yes please) or a hard-shake (a milkshake with the addition of booze), with the Big O-reo being our guilty pleasure with its decadent combo of Jim Bean, vanilla, whipped cream and Oreo cookies.

Dalloway Terrace

With its hanging blooms, fairy lights, marble-topped tables and candle-lit lanterns, Dalloway Terrace is easily one of the prettiest restaurants in London – indeed, it's easy to imagine its literary namesake Virginia Woolf dining in the Thirties-esque Bloomsbury hotspot. The menu features a mix of classic and new dishes, from brunch staples Shakshuka, smoked salmon and Eggs Florentine, to summery hits like chargrilled asparagus with poached egg or Dorset crab on toast.

Sexy Fish

London's biggest celebrity hotspot has recently launched a Sunday brunch party, with guest DJs including Nick Grimshaw, Mary Charteris and Rafferty Law set to take to the decks throughout May and June while punters indulge in sushi, brunch dishes and plenty of fizz. As well as the usual sharing plates, which include sea bream ceviche, tuna tartar and prawn tempura, there are also classic brunch dishes which have been given an Asian twist; from the Sexy Fish Benedict, where tuna and lobster are swapped for ham and served on a black charcoal bun (trust us: you'll never want to downgrade to your regular eggs Benny again) to the tofu hash browns with smoked salmon and crème fraiche, if you're looking for something lighter. To wash it down, choose from one of the Bloody Mary or champagne-inspired cocktails. Brunch has never been this sexy.

The Modern Pantry

Due to celebrate its 10th birthday next year, The Modern Pantry has become an integral part of London's brunch landscape over the past decade. Helmed by Kiwi chef Anna Hansen, it popularised Antipodean cooking with its use of exotic ingredients (yuzu-infused Hollandaise), Asian-inspired dishes popular in the Southern Hemisphere (think Indonesian beef rendang on toast) and Aussie cupboard staples like Vegemite. The kind of place where you'll want to try something different on every visit, it's the perfect neighbourhood brunch spot, with the weekend papers on offer and plenty of familiar faces.
