A DJ has caused an outcry and been suspended after saying breastfeeding is "unnatural" and "must be stopped".

Alex Dyke, a DJ on local station BBC Radio Solent was discussing seeing a woman breastfeeding on the bus, and hosted a phone-in over whether breastfeeding was acceptable.

Dyke made comments about how "yummy mummies" didn't do it because they knew it wasn't "a good look" - and the only women who breastfed looked like "Brownie pack leaders" and "librarian-type, moustachioed" women.

Obviously his comments caused offence, with a petition on Change.org calling for the DJ to be taken off air . The petition said: "We're NOT in the Stone Age anymore - we're in the 21st century. Breastfeeding is completely natural, and people must remember that breasts are for feeding - not for men."

Despite an apology from Alex this morning on the radio show, the BBC suspended the DJ:

"Following unacceptable comments made on air yesterday Alex Dyke has been suspended pending an investigation, so he will not be on air tomorrow" they said in a statement.

The National Childbirth Trust condemned the "outdated, ridiculous and potentially damaging" comments, and Ofcom revealed they had received 14 complaints, according to The Telegraph.
