Festive celebrations are over for another year, #BackToWork is trending, and we find ourselves once more back at our desks, laptops open, struggling to remember how to do our jobs. Seriously, that sentence took three tries to write out coherently.
As we settle into this back to work ‘warming up’ period (expect incompetence for three to five business days, boss) it’s easy to look back upon our collective recent past misty eyed and full of longing for days spent horizontal with no thought more taxing that how to ration the Quality Street to ensure you get the last of the green triangles.
Overused refrains include, but are not limited to: ‘I can’t believe it’s been two weeks already!’, ‘When’s the next Bank Holiday?’ and ‘Maybe I should quit my job and lead a nomadic, off-grid life with only the trees and the open road for company, perhaps I could even finish my memoir’, but it’s not all bad; back to the office means the restoration of routine, a chance to show off any cute new workwear and a much needed excuse NOT to finish the Baileys.
