It’s that time of year again: Halloween. Where every Tom, dickhead and Harry assume it’s acceptable to march the streets wearing offensive dress in the name of something called tradition.
We all remember the life-size tampon costumeof Megan Kelly – created by the misogynistic doofus’ at Costumeish – and the deeply not-ok representationsof accused rapist Bill Cosby. This year is set to be no different to last; a whole load of outrageously heinous costume crimes have already been committed and it’s giving us the heebie-jeebies.
Here’s the worst offenders:
The not-so-sexy burka
Amazon have been forced to pull a costume called the so-called ‘sexy burka’ – which is basically just a niqab accompanied by a LBD – after it was met with great backlash.
One commenter on Amazon’s site declared: ‘A person’s culture is NOT a fancy dress costume’, while another asked: ‘Is this some sort of mockery to the religion?’ Well, er, yes mate.
The online behemoth did not stop there though; they’re also touting ‘Arab’ costumes – read: white tunic and keffiyeh – worn by white model slathered in what looks like very ill-matched foundation. Just.plain.wrong.
Kimmy K’s robbery dress
Although the product description for this one attempts to veil itself slightly: ‘Parisian Heist Robbery Victim Costume Kit’ (And also reads like a set of keywords?!) We ALL know that they’re mocking our Kimmy and we just won’t have it. The costume – now removed from the retailer, Costumeish’s site – included props like ‘fake gag’, a long brown wig and sunglasses. According to their site, customers can ‘have some fun with pop culture’ by loling at a victim of a very real and very terrifying crime. Urgh.
WTF ‘Tranny Granny’
Three retailers – Amazon, Target and Walmart – are being criticised for reportedly selling a cross-dressing granny outfit for men. The outfit comes with fake boobs and butt…I just can’t even.
A representative from Walmart, Ravi Jariwala, told LGBTQNation: 'While it’s listed on other sites, it clearly violates our policy…We’re appalled this seller put it on our site to begin with.'
According to Yahoo News all three have now stripped the costume from their shelves.
Mask that will scare the crap out of you
OK, the Scary Peeper mask from Home Debot is less face-palm offensive (phew) just more keep-you-awake-for-days kinda terrifying. This seriously nightmarish Halloween decoration received so many complaints from creeped out customers that it has been pulled from all Canadian stores.
