While we're debating the relative merits of #barefacedselfies here in the UK, a nine-year-old girl in Colorado has gone one step further – shaving her head in a show of solidarity with her friend who had cancer. She was then suspended from school – because her new haircut violated the school’s dress code.

In a spectacularly dickish move, officials from Caprock School in Colorado told Kamryn Renfro that she wouldn’t be allowed to come back to school unless she wore a wig, or unril her hair grew back. Kamryn was sporting her new ’do in support of her 11-year-old friend Delaney Clements, who recently lost her hair during chemotherapy treatment for childhood cancer neuroblastoma.

The school initially released a statement to TV station KUSA-TV explaining their policy, stating that ‘Caprock Academy does have a detailed dress code policy, which was created to promote safety, uniformity, and a non-distracting environment for the school's students. Under this policy, shaved heads are not permitted.’

However, common sense and loads of negative media coverage prevailed and, after an emergency meeting, the school decided to let Kamryn come back. Because she’s a generally awesome human being, and an incredible friend she told 9News that she didn’t regret her decision. ‘It just felt like the right thing to do.’ For her part, Delaney has said that she loved what her friend did for her. ‘It made me feel special and that I’m not alone.’

Did anyone else have to leave their desk for a discreet sob in the toilets, or is that just us?
