ASOS’s website is still offline this afternoon as the company struggles to ascertain the damage caused by a massive fire at it’s warehouse in Barnsley last night.
No-one was injured in the fire but according to their website, stock has been damaged. A message said, Sorry we have had to take the site down due to a fire in our main warehouse. Fortunately nobody was hurt but we are unable to take any orders until we can ascertain the extent of the damage. Sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. ASOS x'
The fire was brought under control at around 3AM last night by firemen from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue who said, 'The fire involving the ASOS warehouse on Park Spring Road, Barnsley is now out, with one fire engine remaining at the scene to ensure any remaining 'hot spots' to not reignite. At its height, the fire was tackled by 10 fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and a High Volume Pump. The warehouse was more than 60,000 square metres in size and contained up to 10 million boxes of packaging. Several floors have been badly damaged by the fire, though fire crews worked hard to quickly bring the blaze under control.’
