Italian artist and activist Alexsandro Palombo who lives in Milan has launched a new campaign to highlight incidents of domestic violence. The project is called "No Violence Against Women" and forces audiences to confronts the misery of women in abusive relationships, even though on the outside things might seem perfectly fine.

Palomobo told the Mail Onlinethat he 'wanted to give visibility to a problem that affects a great amount of women all over the world'.

According to DomesticViolence.org one woman in the US is beaten or assaulted every nine seconds. In the UK, last year it was reported by the British Crime Survey that there were 12.9 million incidents of domestic violence within households.

These images are extremely hard-hitting as it gets the message across that domestic abuse often happens behind closed doors and are not easy to see or pick up on, even often by friends and family. As Palombo says "victims and perpetrators could be anyone. Even in couples that appear to be normal." The sinister reedrawing of our best loved cartoon gives a feeling of confusion and sadness and something we hope encourages victims to come forward.
