Ever wondered which app was responsible for KILLING your phone's battery life mere minutes after you started using it? We have the answer - and you probably won't be surprised. It's Facebook.
Blogger and news app founder Matt Galligan pointed out that the Facebook app uses way more battery life than just about everything else on your phone. Even Instagram. And the tricks you normally use to save your phone's battery life just don't work with the app.
Now normally, if you turn off 'background refresh', an app stops sucking away at your power. But for some reason, this doesn't work on iOS at the moment - so your phone continues to die quietly in your bag.
“Because the app isn’t ‘sleeping’ properly when I hit the home button, it continues to drain,” Matt wrote in a blog post. “That extraneous background usage, despite not providing any value to me at all, is keeping the app alive 2x longer than my actual usage".
The problem occurs on Android phones as well - a report oublished earlier this year revealed that Facebook and Spotify were the most battery-draining apps for Android phones.
To be fair, Tech Crunch reports that Facebook is working to fix the issue, and with such a complicated mix of content on one app - with all the comments and posts it needs to load, it's no wonder it takes a sizaeable chunk of power to run.
So what to do before a fix is made? Carry a portable charger, delete the app entirely, run it on a web browser, or get wise to how to charge your phone for a longer battery life.
