A campaign encouraging women to ‘grab your wallet’ and boycott Ivanka Trump’s clothing line is blowing up on Twitter. The fashion brand has been hit by an Anti-Trump campaign – started on 11 October by Shannon Coulter, a technology and media marketing specialist from San Francisco – that calls for shoppers to boycott the line in solidarity against Donald’s sexual assault comments.
Shannon Coulter, the creator of the campaign hashtag, #GrabYourWallet, wants women to take a stand against the line – along with all the family’s other products – until Ivanka rebukes her Father for his behaviour, believing that the brand’s ethos is in direct contradiction of Trump’s anti-women remarks.
‘She puts women’s empowerment at the center of her brand, and is still campaigning for someone who is an alleged serial assaulter.’ Shannon told the Washington Post.
‘If Ivanka Trump had distanced herself from the campaign I would not be boycotting her. But something changed for me when that tape was released.’
And although the daughter of the presidential candidate did denounce Trump’s words in an interviewwith ABC News this morning, she still insists that she is ‘very proud’ of him. Say what now?
Retailers who stock the line – including Nordstrum, Macy’s and Amazon – are refusing to bow to shopper pressure. But although it’s still too early to say how far the boycott has impacted sales figures – the range includes clothes, shoes, jewellery, handbags and perfume – a national survey by Fortune showed that less than one in four women would buy an item from the Ivanka Trump range. The 'I spend my weekends in a Country club' style suitjackets are definitely not our cup of tea.
The lady in question is remaining pretty chill about the whole affair, taking a very laissez-faire attitude to the campaign's proceedings.
‘People who are seeking to politicize it because they disagree with the politics of my father—there’s nothing I can do to change that.’
Er, well that’s not technically true now is it, Ivanka…
