Andy Murray Says Wife Kim Sears Doesn't Court The Limelight

Kim Sears is an artist and mother to be. She also happens to be wife to world number three tennis player Andy Murray. As a result, she's often pictured courtside and noted for her fashion choices, and on occasion, for her potty mouth - NB. her choice of 'Parental Advisory' T-shirt after she was caught on camera mouthing profanities during the Australian Open at her husband's oppanent Tomas Berdych.

In a rare interview with The New York Times, Andy has spoken about what keeps his marriage strong and admits his wife dislikes the spotlight and has made "sacrifices" for his career.

Talking about the press attention Kim receives for supporting him from centre-court during tennis tournaments, he says: "It’s not something she courts. She doesn’t like being in the newspapers, and people commenting on what she’s wearing and how she looks, and those sorts of things.

"That’s one of the things that I guess she’s also sacrificed, a little bit, for our relationship, and I appreciate that a lot. But hopefully there’s only a few more years left of it, and then we can get away from all of that stuff."

Asked to sum up his wife's personality Andy said she "has a very good sense of humor. She’s very protective, very loyal." And joked - perhaps in reference to that T-shirt: "She has a bit of a temper on her as well, too."

He also spoke openly about his marriage and how the couple deal with time apart: "I've found that actually spending a bit of time apart isn't actually a bad thing. If you spend two or three weeks apart, and then you do get to see each other, you appreciate it more.

"You spend six months with each other, then every single day you start arguing about little things, whatever.

"When we spend a bit more time apart, the time that we do spend together, we actually appreciate it more. We don't have to travel with each other every single week to make it work."
