Does anyone remember those hairy bags that looked like a scrotum? Well we've all been saying it's about time someone transferred this design concept to footwear, and now it's actually happened. Chinese artist Zhu Tian has created a pair of stilettos that are pretty much retch-inducing, as a protest against the sexualisation of footwear. So while it's a serious, and interesting, message, it doesn't make them any less gross.
The 4 inch heeled shoes - called Babe - are covered in silicon gel, in which real human hair has been implanted to create the sort of thing that Styleite described as 'the stuff of nightmares'. It makes us feel totally queasy.
Designboom, the design site, said the hair is supposed to convey the shoes 'primary function as sexual commodities and as tools to increase attractiveness and lust', specifically women's shoes. Men's shoes are just, y'know, shoes.
While they're not on sale as of yet, Elle China reportedly commissioned the shoes before they were hung to form a sculpture. A really gross shoe sculpture. Zhu Tian will feature in the London Art Fair in January, so if you want more of the same (and who doesn't love a hairy shoe!) then check out the website.
