There’s no denying that AirBnB has revolutionized the way we holiday, but as convenient as the house-sharing website might be, terrifying Airbnb stories consistently pop up to remind us it might not be as safe as we think it is. Hands up if when you book into your AirBnB you have a quick sweep to check everything is OK? Well, now PostSecret – an art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard – have revealed an AirBnB secret that might make you consider ever booking one again.

It was was posted to the PostSecret Facebook group with the caption ‘most talked about secret this week,’ and the postcard read: ‘I swap hidden camera sex videos with other airbnb hosts.’

We all know there’s been some pretty horrific AirBnB horror stories, but this one is flat-out disturbing, and it’s generated a massive conversation Facebook among the PostSecret community. One commenter wrote: ‘ I’m sitting in an Airbnb right now, wishing I had one of those bug sweepers you see in spy films. V unnerving.’

AirBnB requests hosts to compile with privacy laws on their site: ‘Always be mindful of your guests’ privacy. Fully disclose whether there are security cameras or other surveillance equipment at or around your listing. Make sure you are aware and comply with applicable laws and regulations.’

There is, of course, no way of knowing if this post is just a sick joke sent in to shock people or if it’s actually a legitimate ‘secret,’ but the thought alone is enough to stop you booking into AirBnB again. AirBnB have released a statement about the allegation, simply stating ‘there is no evidence to support this claim.’
