While you may think that young men are more likely to cheat than those older, a study has found quite the opposite.

Research conducted by the University of New Hampshire found that the likelihood of a man having an affair increases with age, peaking at 55.

The study - which looked at both economically and emotional reasons why people cheat - discovered that men are 7% more likely to cheat than women.

Their findings suggested women were most likely to cheat at age 45, and they reported this disparity to be due to biological factors.

"The benefits of female infidelity reduce after the age of 40 because a woman would no longer benefit in terms of improved gene quality from the affair," the report stated.

Another interesting takeaway from their study was that upper-class women are eight percent more likely to cheat than middle and lower-class women. However, men were equally likely to cheat, regardless of their background.
