So the sun’s going in, but that doesn’t mean the FUN is going in. We’ve teamed up with Currys PC World and Lenovo to help you #ExtendYourSummer, and what better way to do that, than with fresher’s week? Meeting new people in a new place where it’s actively encouraged to party for a full on week is the epitome of fun, right? Right. But don’t forget, Freshers’ Week is just the beginning of a whole long term. To make sure you get the most out of it, we’ve made a list of the 7 top essentials that will help you get through it with ease.
P.s. Fancy winning a Lenovo Yoga 510 laptop of your very own? Scroll down to find out how.
1. Laptop
It goes without saying, but this is absolutely essential. Especially if your University library is ANYTHING like mine was – bagging a computer in there was like bagging a sunbed at an all inclusive holiday resort, you had to be up at the crack of dawn to put your towel down, so to speak. Having your own will mean you can have the freedom to work from the library OR your digs. PLUS, you could type up your lecture notes as you’re making them, rather than having to do it hours after and struggle to read your own handwriting. We’d totally recommend the Lenovo Yoga 510 from Currys PC World. Our favourite thing about it is it’s rotating screen, which means it’s not just a laptop; it’s a tablet too! Handy for slipping into your bag for lectures and seminars, or, you know, messing about on YouTube with your flat mates.
2. Box of fancy dress stuff
If there’s one thing you can guarantee you’ll need at Uni, it’s fancy dress stuff. Particularly in Freshers’ week. From Smurfs and cave men, to cowboys and super heroes, there’s ALWAYS a themed night, so make sure you’re prepared. Top tip: don’t throw anything away – you’ll almost definitely need it again next year.
3. Emergency Coffee
Whether you’re tired from studying overnight, or tired from partying too much, one thing’s for sure, Uni is EXHAUSTING. It’s the perfect time to get into coffee. Natch, students are on a budget, so make sure you’ve always got a stash at home and a thermos when you’re on the go – it’ll save you expensive trips.
4. Good Sense Of Judgement
So you’re about to be thrown into a whole new world, with a whole new bunch of people and a lot of freedom. What you really need here is a good sense of judgement. It might be wise to hold back just a touch at the beginning, maybe don’t trust your new very bestest friend with say, your deepest darkest secrets, or your PIN numbers straight away. Wait a while until you feel like you really know them.
5. Never ending supply of biros
Mainly because, as everyone knows, you’ll use one once and then it’ll never be seen again. But also, because what IF that dreamboat in your tutorial group forgets his pen, it would really be in your favour to be the one with the spare pen.
6. Frozen Pizza, always
You’ll need a freezer full of the stuff on standby, always, in case of emergency cramming sessions, or hangovers.
7. Camera
Above all, Uni is about making memories, so make sure you capture them, so that when you’re back in the real world working 9-5 you can look back at your student days and be flooded with memories of all of the good times.
