A well-brewed tea, an indulgent bubble bath, an early finish at work - it's the small things in life that can turn a crappy day into a happy day. And with this in mind, here's five easy ways you can upgrade a day that's taken a turn for the worse, for under £5.
Treat yourself to a hot chocolate or coffee
I don't know about you, but for me, one of life's simplest pleasures is treating myself to a hot chocolate or latte from the local coffee shop. Not only does thias give me a much needed boost of energy, but it's literally warming for the soul. And YES - get the extra whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles on top. Mmmm.
Say yes to self-care
'Me time' is my favourite kind of time, and it can genuinely work wonders for your wellbeing, especially if you're having a rather bad day. So, on your way home from work, pop into a Boots store and pick up a cheap bath bomb and your favourite magazine. Then, when you get home, put your phone to one side, soak in a hot bath, and read your mag. As well as de-stressing your mind and body, your relaxing, digital detox session will give tired eyes a rest.
Buy a £1 scratchcard
A National Lottery Scratchcard can be purchased from as little as £1 and it might just change your life for the better. Considering that they can be cheaper than your morning coffee, it's a no-brainer opportunity to upgrade your day (even if you don't win, it's still bloody good fun!). Just imagine what you could do if you win the top prize...gets a one-way ticket to travel the world and buys everything at Topshop
Get a new washing up sponge (no, seriously)
You know you've reached peak adult life when a new washing up sponge gives you pure joy. Gone are the days of depending on a big night out to lift a bad mood - now, a quick trip to your local Co-op to pick up a new sponge will suffice (no joke). Plus, did you know that household cleanliness can improve happiness? Yep, it's true! So throw out your old, dirty sponge and get to washing them dishes with your swanky new one, pronto.
Invest in a Pinterest-worthy houseplant
Aesthetically-pleasing, good for your health and just generally bloody cool, every millennial should have at least one houseplant in their home. They look cute, will make your pad look uber Pinterest-worthy, and they'll even help you breath better (don't knock their oxygen-producing skills, people). And if you've got zero experience in keeping plants alive, don't fret: a succulent is the most low-maintenance plant you can buy. In fact, they're practically death-proof - bingo!
