Inside Royal Baby Lilibet’s LA Life

'Bringing up a baby in La La Land will be a bit different to Blighty, for Harry And Meghan'

Smart sleep trainers, Hawaiian-style baby gyms and party planning for the Big ‘1’; bringing up a baby in La La Land is a bit different to Blighty. And I should know, I’m about to do the same.

Meghan may have eschewed the luxury of celebrity favourite Cedars Sinai in Beverly Hills in favour of giving birth at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, but that was arguably because of convenience. Her birthing suite – complete with room service, snack pantry and relaxation videos – was just a 10-minute drive from the Montecito estate she shares with Prince Harry and son Archie, two.

Midwives aren’t commonplace in the US, so Meghan is likely to have had her own doula, who’ll also be keeping an eye on her at home through the first few weeks. Remember how her mother Doria signed up for grandparent classes when Archie was first born? Meghan may well enlist help from the same source – Brandi Jordan, who founded The Cradle Company and is known in Hollywood as the Baby Sleep Fairy (Megan Fox and Mandy Moore are clients).

Meghan didn’t throw a baby shower this time but, like every other LA mom- to-be she will have set up a registry (how else do you make sure you get everything you actually want?). Top of every baby list for 2021? The Snoo – a sleep training bassinet that mimics the womb and is controlled by your phone (it costs a casual £1,295).

Then there’s the nursery decor (interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard is behind the bedrooms of both Kylie Jenner and Elton John’s offspring) and (sustainable) wardrobe to think about. Monica + Andy (popular with Jessica Alba and Amy Schumer) is the leading organic clothing brand, Posh Peanut (Kate Hudson is a fan) is a must and All The Babies (spotted on Emrata’s son) even run a ‘give back’ programme that will surely appeal to Meghan.

So, once she’s caught up on sleep, what will #momlife look like for Meghan and Lili (and celebs such as Kirsten Dunst and Gal Gadot, giving birth in LA this summer)? Post-lockdown will see the reopening of high-end baby venues like The Coop (softplay), Zooga (yoga) and Wild Child (a baby gym with a Hawaiian vibe).

In LA, the first birthday party is a very big deal, so Meghan and Harry should probably get planning now. Kanye and Kim threw a ‘Kidchella’-themed party for North West, while Khloé Kardashian went with a dream theme for her daughter True, complete with ponies made to look like unicorns, with a little help from A-list party planner Mindy Weiss (who also created a CBD-themed baby shower for Kim K). Yep, there’s a reason they call it La La Land.
