Turns Out Tinder Isn’t Dead After All

The release of Tinder's new paid-for feature was so popular it reached number one in the App Store's top-grossing chart in just one day

Tinder Is The Biggest Money-Making App Right Now

Tinder has become Apple’s top grossing app on the app store, topping Netflix and Candy Crush.

This news comes just after the launch of TinderGold in the US. This new feature allows users to see who has liked them straight away instead of having to traipse through hundreds of potential love interests. The dating app headed straight to the top of the charts just one day after the subscription tier was introduced, despite its high price point.

The feature costs $4.99 (£4) a month, however, that also has to be paid on top of the Tinder Plus monthly subscription which is $9.99. A Tinder spokesperson explained the reason for the creation of Tinder Gold, 'We know you. You live in a world where every moment counts — where speed equals success, you're always on the go, and you can't let anything slow you down.' App users obviously think it’s worth spending that extra dolla’ to find that ‘someone special’ that tiny bit quicker, or more likely perhaps, to get a quick shag...

This news comes as a surprise considering the superficiality of the app- hmm actually maybe not… Users are expected to pass judgement on others from as little as a few pouty selfies and a witty caption. Basically, the app expects you to think with your genitals, rather than your brain, making it a lot less likely you’ll actually get on in IRL.

The dating app has got some new competition in town. Taffy is basically a new, less conceited version of Tinder. Unlike Tinder, the app doesn’t let you see the person’s appearance you are talking to straight away. It blurs your matches face and gradually reveals it as you get to know them and as the conversation goes on. However, let’s face it, it’s unlikely this app will be as successful as its competitor, because sadly, for most people appearance is at the top of their list. And as we can see from the success of Tinder Gold, there is a big desire for instant gratification.
