Kim and Kanye West got married, and we’re sure you read about it everywhere so we’ll just leave you with the fact that Jaden Smith turned up in a Batman costume.

The biggest shocked of the month was when footage leaked of Solange kicking out at Jay Z in an elevator after the Met Gala. The impeccably dressed duo were joined by Beyoncé, whose only reaction was to make sure her loaned dress wasn’t trod on too much. She later showed solidarity with her sister by uploading to Instagram a plethora of photos of herself with the younger Knowles. Beyoncé addressed the incident later in the year in the Nicki Minaj remix of ***Flawless: ‘Of course shit go down when it’s a billion dollars in the elevator

Another leaked video heralded the second biggest celebrity controversy of May in the form of Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik getting caught smoking a dodgy-looking cigarette in the back of their motorcaded van while on tour in Peru. High-lights included Zayn saying he wanted to make a graphic novel and Louis calling the police protecting him the ‘po po’.

Other less drastic celebrity shockery came in the form of Miley Cyrus’s tour of the UK. In what might have been the most ridiculously eclectic mish-mash of hyperactivity, she wowed, humping a car in front of hordes of screaming 14-year-old girls. Oh, and Conchita Wurst won the Eurovision Song Contest, proving that you can be a woman with a beard and that sexuality and gender are more fluid than the angry spittle from the shouting mouth of an angry Russian politician.

The plot of Homeland, bar all the jazz and ridiculousness, seemed to become real life as the US successfully managed to get sergeant Bowe Bergdahl back from his Taliban captors by returning some prisoners. Cue lots of people wondering where his true allegiances lie.

A 22-year-old student Elliot Rodger went on a killing spree near a campus in Isla Vista before turning the gun on himself. Seven people died and thirteen were injured. He did all of this because he hated women for never wanting to sleep with him, and men for sleeping with women he wanted to sleep with.

Crimea held a slightly dodgy referendum; it's now part of Russia.

Banger(s) of the month: Nearly spoiled by it's use on those X Factor adverts, Ella Henderson's Ghost is very possibly the very best song an ex-X Factor contestant has ever released. Cue many a drunken self-righteous singalong.

We were watching: Maleficient’s twist on Disney tales of yore helped solidify the entire brand as a modern, progressive entity. The shame being that most times Disney hit headlines it was when some bright spark ‘reimagined’ characters from the Disney renaissance to make some sort of point about how unrealistic they are.
