This was a particularly busy month over at The Debrief. Not only did we launch on the 3rd of February, but just FYI, a load of shit goes down in February. As well as the beginning of Fashion Month (or that weird time Harry Styles went out with Kendall Jenner), the Oscars took place and one of our party did her first all-nighter in a bid to keep track of everything that happened.

Turns out that a selfie could break the internet (and potentially a few rules around product placement on awards shows), Jared Leto’s face could break all laws of ageing and gravity, the lack of an Oscar win could break Leonardo DiCaprio’s steely heart and Lupita Nyong’o’s thankyou speech for her Oscar for her role as Patsey in 12 Years A Slave could near-break the limits of our pride.

The Brit awards were a prime opportunity for Ella Eyre’s hair (and lungs) to just about outsize the ego of Artic Monkeys’ Alex ‘I’m American Now’ Turner and for Beyoncé to be there-but-not-there in a mirage-like cascade of sequins as she mesmerized us with that voice.

Ellen Page came out on Valentine’s Day to much applause, especially from us, and especially at a time when many eyes were on the way the Russian Winter Olympics were going to work, what with Russian policy outlawing gay ‘propaganda’. Protestors were quickly shut down and arrested and the law still stands.

More sad news came in the form of Phillip Seymour Hoffman dying of a heroin overdose halfway through his stint filming scenes for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.

Luckily, we had Pharrell’s hat to cheer us up. :/

Babyname of the month: Apollo Bowie Flynn Rossdale (Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale)

Banger(s) of the month: Clean Bandit – Rather Be, Years & Years – Real

We were watching: Scarlett Johansson seducing Joaquin Phoenix via telephone screen in Her, and Jared Leto swanning about as the unlikely trans friend of Matthew McConaughey’s Texan hustler in Dallas Buyers’ Club.
