You again...[Mad Men]
If you have worked in more than one place you might have noticed that even with a change of scenery, one thing remains consistent – people.
At first it can be tricky, navigating between your colleagues complex and strange work personalities but after a few years you start to catch on.
Without exception you will have or will soon, come into contact with the following people at work:
1. The Jobsworth
They know it all, they’re always on time and they always go over and above. This classic office character is probably just someone who wants to do their job well and you hate yourself for hating them.
2. The Reigning King Or Queen Of Passive Aggressive
This smiling assassin knows just how to complement you whilst simultaneously making you feel like a fool. Often uses a baby voice and loves an audience. Approach with caution.
3. Everyone’s Work BFF
How they have time to make everyone else feel special is a mystery. This lovely human can be found making everyone tea and making you laugh just when you’re contemplating a little desk cry.
4. The Bully
No one likes them but everyone lives in fear that they’re next on the list. You’re not sure why you care but you still desperately try and seek their approval.
5. The Weepy One
Look, we all have our moments but this workie takes it too far. You resort to email only communication in case you get stuck at their desk giving them a pep talk.
6. The 3 Faces Of Eve (Or Steve)
Also known as the ‘unreadable’ one minute your laughing in the kitchen about your weekend antics, the next they’re giving you the death stare in a meeting. Usually comes in the form of a ‘boss’.
7. The Office Clown
They can be counted on for endless office entertainment. They break awkward silences and bring know-it-alls down a peg when they get too big for their boots.
8. The Unaware David Brent
People physically squirm when they talk. You’ve tried to have a word but whenever this guy talks your bum aches from cringe-clenching (hey, it’s a thing)
9. The 9-5
They arrive neither a minute late nor a minute early and depart bang on time. They take their full lunch hour, join in the odd chat and meet all their deadlines. They are the WORST.
10. The Office Sweetheart
They’re never in trouble and get away with absolutely everything. You’ve tried to copy their behaviour and it didn’t end well.
11. The Rain Cloud
This person has made turning a positive into a negative an art form. You learn quickly never, ever to ask ‘how are you?’ unless you have an hour to spare.
12. The Idea Thief
It’s simple but brilliant. That one person who does practically nothing yet appears as though they are the catalyst of every great idea you have. If they repeat your idea back to you but using different terminology, you’ve found The Idea Thief.
