A lot of female actresses have spoken in support of George Clooney's recent call for lead movie roles to be rewritten for women, but Nicole Kidman insists that we need to put more of women's own stories in the spotlight as well.
Speaking at the Women In The World London summit Nicole - who's just returned to the stage in the role of scientist Rosalind Franklin - said: 'I've been on the receiving end of saying can we rewrite this male role for a female one but let's also tell more stories of women, too.'
She suggests that bringing about change in the film industry is as much about support from audiences as actresses scoring big roles in the first place. We need to 'buy tickets, demand the stories, respond to them and they will be told,' she suggests.
The actress also joked about how much she loves travelling with her 'Gypsy family' and how fast she fell for husband Keith Urban: 'we got married and then we got to know each other once we were married.'
While it's clear Nicole has nailed a work-life balance, she says it took winning an Oscar to realise what's important. After breaking up with former husband Tom Cruise she says she 'embraced her own life' which 'culminated in me winning an Oscar,' but realised 'it wasn't the answer. I was holding a gold statue and I was the loneliest I've ever been.'
