Ikea have released a new app, complete with a super-snazzy advert for your photographing pleasure.

Which may seem a bit incongruous, considering Ikea is world renowned for providing patience-testing flatpack furniture at mostly agreeable prices. What might have passed you by is that the Swedish powerhouse have recently decided to try their hand at high end art-ing, as well.

Specifically, they’ve created Ikea Art Photography 2016, a collection of 11 prints by 11 contemporary photographers available to buy in-store for a few weeks over April. The introductory video features said contemporary photographers, like Czeck Bára Prášilová and English award-winner Mandy Barker, saying things like ‘I don’t think that I find the inspirations, the inspirations find me’ and ‘I don’t want to create a piece of art just for arts' sake, I want it to have a true message.’ So you know it’s legit.

In honour of the collection, Ikea have launched a (shameless promotional tactic) fun new app that users can download to submit their own snaps and be in with a chance of having their work featured on a 12th print. Klikk aims to 'save the dying art of photography’ by forcing users to think about timing, lighting, and composition (rather than rely on the one-size-fits-all filter solution offered by Instagram and other editing methods) before giving you the option to upload to the Ikea abyss of hopefuls. The not-so-snap-happy software limits you to just one photo, meaning you can’t power through a hundred near-identical shots and then simply choose the best one from your extortionate accumulation… saves on memory space, for sure.

Here’s some really poignant Ikea-related pics we think would make great prints...

Global iconography in meaty form

A truly satisfactory paradigm of flawless symmetry

Thought-provoking personification of the inanimate

A rousing juxtaposition of colour and texture

Tiny shrubbery encased in water captures the essence of nature and freedom
