There was sad news from Hollywood this week, as Jason Momoa and his wife Lisa Bonet announced they were divorcing after 16 years together. The couple have two children and were married for five years. Yet despite them only just announcing their split, social media has been quick to start speculating about Jason's next move. While some of his fans are devastated, others already have their hopes up for a potential Game of Thrones coupling.

Game of Thrones fans have gone back into the archives to find to this picture of Emilia Clarke and Jason in his Instagram feed. The photo in question show Emilia sitting on his lap, while the caption reads: 'MOON OF MY LIFE. You are wonderful, love you forever.' Fans have commented that the pair - who played married couple Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo on the hit HBO show - would make a good couple off-screen.

Furthermore, an unearthed interview reveals that Jason regularly visits his former on-screen wife every time he travels to the UK. When Jason appeared alongside Emilia on The Graham Norton Show in 2019, they made it clear how important it was that they saw each other often.

Hosting, Graham joked that Jason was 'reunited' with his wife, and asked whether the couple had been in touch since Game of Thrones finished. 'We have,' Emilia said.

'Every time I come to England, I see Emilia,' Jason added. While the pair have never shown or declared any previous feelings beyond friendship, fans are hoping that this is the opening needed to finally make things official.

However, speculating about the Game of Thrones stars as a couple does come across as more than a bit insensitive. Jason and Lisa have just announced their divorce - something which is brave in any circumstance to open up about. Although they are both in the public eye, they certainly don’t owe us an insight into their toughest moments.

Announcing the split, they released a powerful joint statement, 'We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times,' it read. 'A revolution is unfolding, and our family is of no exception ... feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring. And so we share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage.'

The statement continued, 'We share this not because we think it's newsworthy but so that as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty. ... Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life our children. Teaching our children what's possible. Living the Prayer. May Love Prevail.'

A divorce can of course be a painful and complicated process, as you mourn the loss of the life you thought you were going to have. While this former couple's joint statement suggested that they were on very amicable terms, that doesn’t mean their split hurts any less for them. Their children, adult or not, will still be coming to terms with it too.

So, speculation about future flames would surely be hard on them to process, and should be handled with caution. It seems as if people have seen Jason and Lisa's incredibly mature statement and concluded that it’s OK to jump to conclusions. But really, we must still allow them and their family time and space to process.
