If there's a name in music to take note of this year, it's SZA. She released her debut album, Ctrl, back in June and since then has only grown to become the voice behind some of our favourite songs of 2017.
There's *Supermodel, *for which SZA is up for Best R&B Song at the Grammys. Then there's *Love Galore *with Travis Scott which is nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance. And then, of course, there's The Weekend which is nominated for the Best R&B Performance award, only last week received the Calvin Harristreatment with a Funk Wav remix and is probably the track that cemented SZA's place in our hearts, souls and Spotify playlists.
Thankfully, we've finally been granted visuals to go with the track. The music video for *The Weekend *was the brainchild by non other than musical visionary Solange. You might remember her video for *Cranes In The Sky *which she directed with her husband last year - Solange is no stranger to making magic behind the camera either. And the product of her project with SZA is as dreamy and beautiful as you'd hope for.
The video opens with SZA dancing on a balcony. It's got a futuristic, minimalist industrial kinda vibe. The words 'one opted out, an imbalance of power, shifted the whole tide, it waved and waved', appear across the screen before we slide into the first verse and happily drift away into SZA's world.
Let's put it this way. If you're tense, stressed or agitated by the strain that has been 2017, take 4.08 minutes to forget that and mellow the fuck out with SZA's voice to sooth you into a better 2018. Trust us. We've got this on loop.
