Jay Z Making It To The Songwriters Hall Of Fame Is A Really Big Deal

No one ever talks about Jay Z much. I mean, he’s married to Beyoncé, otherwise known as one of the most famous and adored women on the planet, for god’s sake, and when are we not talking about Beyoncé (where the twins at babes?). But today is Z-day, okay? Because Mr Shawn Corey ‘Jay-Z’ Carter has just been honoured with a really impressive accolade.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame celebrates the great songwriters who have had a bit impact on our culture and Jay Z is the first rapper to be inducted to their roster. I don’t know about you but it feels a little odd to think that it’s only now that a rap artist has been recognised in this sort of capacity after decades of influencing music in such a significant way, but better late than never, right?

Jay Z didn’t actually make it down to the awards ceremony (lots of people are guessing it’s because Queen Bey is carrying twins and looks like she’s about to burst). Instead, he spent the evening reacquainting himself with Twitter. And lol, it was pretty clear he’s not exactly used to the platform.

He took the time to thank all of the people who have inspired him, which was really nice – ‘salute to anybody who made a song to feed their family or just vent’, we wrote – but it was also funny because you could kind of tell that fitting sentences into 140 characters was a tad unfamiliar. Lots of spaces, rogue full stops and ‘wait’s at the end, where assuming to indicate that he wasn’t done tweeting. And if the fact that as cool as Jay Z is, he’s still actually a middle-aged dad, let me refer you to the tweet that reads: ‘Somebody find that reply I hit please. I’m new on this’. And also the one he sent to reassure people that he wasn’t drunk. Just bad at Twitter.

A personal highlight was when he referred to ex-President of the United States and all around great guy as ‘the greatest rapper of all time’. Obama obviously has as much love for Jay Z as Jay Z does for him. The proof? It's in this video...
