Ed Sheeran has officially confirmed that a collaboration with Taylor Swift will be released tomorrow (Friday 11th of February.) The new track has been the subject of much speculation over the last few weeks, with fans theorising it will be a reworked version of Ed’s 2021 song The Joker and the Queen.
Speaking at the BRIT Awards, Ed told LADbible that his next single ‘comes out on Friday and it’s with Taylor Swift’.
'We’re literally announcing that in like an hour,' he added. Following this interview, Ed released a snippet of the upcoming song to Twitter, sending fans into meltdown.
In the tweet, he wrote: ‘The Joker And The Queen featuring my good friend @taylorswift13 is out this Friday. Link in bio to pre-order or pre-save it x.’
This will be the fourth collaboration for the pair, with their most recent being 'Run' from Red (Taylor’s Version). They also came together for 2012’s Everything Has Changed, and 2017’s End Game(feat. Future). Ed first teased the single in October last year, following speculation that Taylor would appear on the updated version of the song. He told Captital Xtra that the track would feature an 'American artist.'
Since the announcement, Swifties have spotted all the potential clues that led to this moment. The two red lines in the wedding cake of the 'I Bet You Think About Me' music video resembled the Ed's signature 'equals' sign, the Queen in the 'Joker and the Queen' artwork now looks suspiciously like Blondie. Also, the 'Taylor Swift' patch on the back of his jacket in the 'Overpass Graffiti' music video all lead to a potential collaboration between the best friends.
