1. Joni Mitchell - A Case Of You

'I think this could possibly be the best song ever written. Writing about something as important as love can seem so hard but she somehow makes it feel effortless, describing a love that we can only dream of.'

2. Tom Waits - Martha

'This song still makes me want to cry every time I hear it. Your first love is one you can't forget however old you get, calling up an old friend just to see how they're doing telling them you'll always wish it was them. A beautiful song.'

3. Loudon Wainwright III - Motel Blues

'First time I heard this song Bombay Bicycle Club were covering it in a pub called The Old Queens Head and it was the first time I'd ever seen them play. I went home and listened to this song it seems a hundred times, it made me want to write music that wasn't scared and was full of honesty even though some things may be better left unsaid.'

4. Nick Drake - Pink Moon

If there's one song that makes me feel safe it's this one. If I'm ever feeling any sort of anxiety or worry I'll put this song on. I don't know quite what makes it so magical but it makes me feel so much and so peaceful all at once.

5. Neil Young - Old Man

'I'm still not sure what this song is written about. Someone once told me it was about his garden that he only met after he was working for him for many years, who knows it that is true but everything in the imperfections and character is his voice makes me feel something only he can produce. Songs like these are ones we can only dream of writing.'

6. Jeff Buckley - Lilac Wine

'Someone told me this was a cover, it might be but this version was the first introduction to this song. It's similar to the Joni Mitchell song in ways, but his voice takes me somewhere else and the lyrics are truly beautiful.'

7. Nico - These Days

'This song's inspired me in so many ways when I was first beginning to write and play music. Her voice isn't always perfect but that's what makes me love it so much. It made me feel like you don't always have to sing perfectly in tune for something to make you feel something. Her lyrics are just incredible, and I think depressingly she only wrote this when she was 16.'

8. Pretenders - Don't Get Me Wrong

'This song will always remind me of my mum, dancing around the kit when with me being silly, carefree and forgetting all my problems. What's an amazing front woman she is, a real inspiration and an incredible song writer. '

9. U2 - With Or Without You

'Now this song reminds me so much of my dad. I think it's our song, whenever he picked me up from school we'd listen to this song at full volume in his car and sing out the chorus as loud as we could. I felt like this song was a real inspiration to me early on in my life and the subject felt so deeply personal it was impossible not to feel something when you hear this song.'

10. Carole King - So Far Away

'I guess with travelling so much I do feel far away from my family and the ones I love so dearly. For me I find this song massively relatable; "doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore". We all have these lives to live and places to visit and we all think about going home and knocking at that ones persons door.'
