Searching for something fun to get you off your bum this weekend? Look no further, we’ve got your weekend sorted right here.
Go bonkers at London’s Hyper Japan
Channel your inner Shoshanna from Girls and head to the Olympia in London this weekend to celebrate all things brilliant and bonkers about Japan. From Japanese food (hello deconstructed sushi) to J-Pop stars (prepare for ALL THE SCREAMING GIRLS), fashion stalls and competitions, cosplay, panels and talks, it’s set to be a really rather eye-opening weekend…
Hyper Japan Festival, 15-17 July. Olympia, London. Tickets start from £15.
Marvel at the bravery of the Queens of Syria in Liverpool
As part of Liverpool’s Arab Arts Festival, head over to the Everyman Theatre this weekend to catch a special production of Euripides' The Trojan Women performed by Syrian refugees now living in Jordan. The parallels between the story the women are telling and their own personal journeys is stark, important and needs to be talked about.
*Queens of Syria, 15-16th July, Liverpool Everyman Theatre. Tickets from £9. *
Liverpool Arab Arts Festival 15th-24th July. Various locations in Liverpool. More info here.
Get fit and get dancing at Glasgow’s Colour Run
If 2016 as a fitness fantastic year hasn’t exactly gone your way then sign up for this weekend’s Colour Run – it’s the ultimate in non-serious organised races where no-one will judge you if you haven’t quite got your fitness up to the 5k stage yet. Get covered in paint, be encouraged by music, dancers and DJs and generally have a billboard time.
The Colour Run, 17th July, Glasgow City Centre. Tickets £25.
Go hogwild at Lambeth Country Show
If you live in London then you don’t really get much of a chance to participate in the activities of country folk. Enter the Lambeth Country Fair. Which is your chance to pretend you live in The Archers, while drinking all of the drinks. From a vegetable judging competition, farm animal areas, a flower show, music and erm, medieval jousting. Make sure you stop by the Chucklehead Cider Stall for several buckets of cider for a truly authentic experience. Just make sure you get cash out and purchase tinnies before.
Lambeth Country Show, 16 & 17th July. Free!
