Step away from the kale chips, and stop considering those cashmere sweatpants as a last minute sale ‘investment’ buy. January is over, normal service has resumed and it’s time to go out. Here’s a rundown of the weekend’s best nights.

, featuring everything from Busta Rhymes and Ginuwine mixes to new electronic talent Obey City. On Saturday DJ duo and record label Kaya Kaya pick no wave, funk and afrobeat tracks until Sunday morning at new night BABEGANG. If it gets too much, upstairs serves cocktails with low-key DJs playing out.

’. Catch the Detroit Strong man playing London’s Corsica Studios on Friday (along with vinyl-only heart-throbs Bradley Zero, Charles Drakeford and Nic Tasker of Principals) and at Motion in Bristol to celebrate Just Jack’s 8th Birthday the following day. Check out what to wear here.

Urban Nerds x Snowbombing @ Village Underground, London

Friday 31 January

UK Garage had a strong 2013 thanks to Disclosure’s pop revival of the 90s genre but if you’re looking for something a little more unknown try the launch of new night ‘Wot U Call It’. Despite shouting out a grime track by Bow hero Wiley, it’s 100% new Garage and 0% anything from the past. For a Sweet Female Attitude, Heartless Crew and Tina Moore fix though, Urban Nerds and ski festival Snowbombing host a joint night with DJ EZ (of the Pure Garage compilations) just around the corner.

Livin Proof @ The Art School, Glasgow

Sat 1 February

In Scotland promoters Gavrillo are seeing off the bleakest month on Friday with the return of new Radio 1 electro DJ B.Traits to Aberdeen venue Snafu. Expect big things because, as they say, “last time we took over it was ridiculous”. If hip-hop is more you, London party crew Livin Proof are on a road trip. DJ Snips & co will cut through the biggest tracks right now (essentials still include Ace Hood’s Bugatti, Migos’ ‘Versace’, plenty Drake and new Beyonce to really wind to).

Space Dimension Controller, Maurice Fulton @ Gorilla, Manchester

Sat 1 February

Promoters like Manchester’s Stevie Wonderland promise they’ve spent the whole party-break planning their first huge night in Manchester. Maurice Fulton’s three-hour disco sets are an unforgettably good time, resurrecting the vibe of the early NYC club scene while R&S Records’ Space Dimension Controller puts sci-fi twists on funk and disco. The promoters say “these two are gonna make you move” and it’s v.difficult not to agree.
