The world’s only ‘mindful triathlon’ is coming to Victoria Park in east London in September – and it sounds like a much more enjoyable experience than your average triathlon. If you’re like me and the thought of normal triathlons make you feel physically sick, allow me to give you the low-down on this new wave of working out.
Wanderlust 108, the event’s organisers, boast it as a ‘triathlon unlike any you’ve ever known’. Instead of cycling and swimming, it’s a combination of wellbeing and cardio, involving a 5K run, a 90-minute outdoor yoga session, and 30 minutes of meditation to wrap things up.
In terms of competitiveness, it all seems pretty chilled out. You’re encouraged to go at your own pace for the 5K and whether you’re walking or running – Wanderlust just want you to pass the finish line.
The event is described as a ‘wellness-focused festival’, and it's not hard to see why. Yoga is accompanied by a DJ and there will be live music and activities throughout the day. You’ll definitely be hungry afterwards so there will organic food stalls to grab lunch and keep your body zen. It may not be Glastonbury, but at least you will be feeling much less fragile afterwards.
Tickets range between £21.80-£30, and Wanderlust plan to donate £1 from each ticket to Hope For Children – a charity that aims to improve the lives of vulnerable children all over the world living in poverty.
You can buy tickets from Eventbrite.
