Is your local boozer failing to cut the mustard these days? No fear; bars with added fun factors from art to swing dancing are popping up all over the country. Barchickfilled us in on their faves.

The Lido Bar, Bristol

Who doesn’t love a little breastroke and boozing? You can do both at The Lido Bar – Bristol’s very own al-fresco swimming-pool bar and the West’s answer to the French Riviera. Inside, there’s a beach-hut vibe where you can work your way through some delish tapas and vino. Oh, and there are big windows so you can watch the swimmers lap past – we all know swimmers have bangin’ bods, right? Now that’s BarChick’s kinda benefit.

Peckham Springs, Peckham, London

In keeping with the mega artsy vibes down in sarffffff London, Peckham Springs is part-cocktail bar, part-art gallery, part pop- up food stop – this place has got it going on. Showcasing some of the hottest young artists about, as well as serving up what the Evening Standard have called ‘the best value cocktails in London’ – who said you can’t have it all?

The Jekyll & Hyde, Birmingham

Disguised as a standard boozer, this bad boy is secretly hiding a Victorian gin parlour upstairs. Oh, and not just any old gin parlour – one that knocks up the best cocktails in town and has an epic-proportioned movie screen. Every Monday, you put forward your fave classic from a ‘bygone era,’ if they like your style and go with it, then the night for you and your mates is on them. Bring on the popcorn.

The Lucky Liquor Co, Edinburgh

Is it a shop? Is it a bar? We don’t give a… either way, get IN here. Bottles behind the bar are for sale so you can recreate the cocktails at home. If that isn’t enough there’s also a vintage vinyl player, so flip through and get a track on – and, of course, they’re for sale behind the bar too. So a booze & record store, within a killer bar - Edinburgh, we salute you.

Passing Clouds, Dalston, London

This guy offers anything and everything. There’s something going on every night of the week from yoga, swing dancing (don’t worry if you’re without a date, these guys switch partners – true swingers) open-mic nights, People’s Kitchen and jazz jam sessions. Boo yah.
