Last week’s best clubs were in Glasgow, but this week the focus turns to way down South London. Peckham in the SE has two strong nights this weekend, with vinyl-only party Rhythm Section relocating from a pool hall to a warehouse for one night only and Deadly Rhythm taking over on the Saturday. Elsewhere, Annie Mac visits Oxford and Liverpool before she leaves to break the USA and there’s a taste of the festival season to come in Nottingham.

It’s a tale of two rhythms in Peckham this weekend as local favourites explore new spaces. On Friday, it’s Rhythm Section – who relocate from their home at Canavan’s pool hall for, in their own words, 'This One Off Warehouse Rhythm Section Special!' Manchester DJ Jon K, the 'real goddam deal' according to regular host and resident Bradley Zero (and honestly, anyone who has ever seen him play out) is the special guest for the night. They advise '...as always, don't be late, be nice and no photos on the dancefloor please!
' - which are basically rules for life as well as a night out. On Saturday it’s the turn of Deadly Rhythm, who promise 'full body dance music' aka the best kind.

Saturday March 1

Also in South London, basement club The Bunker has something a little… sillier. Taking it back to 1994, when a lot of the people who’ll be heading down were probably under 10 years old, the second ‘Club Classics’ promises era appropriate drinks prices (£2.50 doubles and mixers, even bottles of Hooch) and music from Baby D, The Prodigy, 808 State, Kicks Like a Mule etc. In keeping with those prices, it’s only £3 on the door. They advise getting down early if you want to get in because the last one had sold out by midnight. There are a LOT of cheapskates out there.

Annie Mac, Mele & more @ Albert Hall, Manchester

Saturday March 1st

Annie Mac is taking her R1 show and ever-popular Annie Mac Presents… night to the USA for the whole of March, but, before she goes, there are two UK parties to be taken care of. See her as the special guest at Oxford’s Switch night on Friday, while on Saturday she travels to Manchester for a late night session at Manchester’s Albert Hall – a Grade II listed chapel recently brought back to life as a club. If you’re into Annie’s Friday show and it’s mix of poppy takes on house, hip-hop and more, it’ll be a worship worthy party with sets from Redlight, Dismantle and Mele.

Wigflex’s Gottwood Launch w/ Funkineven, Lone, Patten @ The Brickworks, Nottingham

Saturday March 1st

While it is way too early to actually start wearing any spring outfits, last week’s crisp sunny days might have had you thinking about the summer and, with that, festival time. Luckily, plenty of promoters are offering appetisers. Promoters Bugged Out are back with their ‘Bugged out Weekend’ in Southport next week but on Friday welcome Green Velvet and Éclair Fifi to XOYO. Wigflex celebrate the fact they’ll be back at Wales’ Gottwood festival (famed for it’s enchanted forest feel, described by club site Resident advisor as “something out of a fairy-tale or your most lucid dream”) with this party in Nottingham. There’s techno and psych wizardry from James Holden, hazy party-ready Funkineven, Lone and a live set from Warp’s Patten.

City Bass 4th Birthday @ Undertone, Cardiff

Saturday March 1st

He might have hit it big with ‘Au Seve’ but house-viking Julio Bashmore isn’t resting. Currently working on a debut album (due this year on his own Broadwalk records) as well as collaborating with Jessie Ware on her second release, he’s pulling a two hour set at this warehouse, tucked away in the Southampton Docks. Kowton and Velour, Bashmore’s project with producer Hyetal, also play. One last shout to promoters City Bass, who will be celebrating their fourth birthday as well as St David’s Day (Cymru Am Byth etc etc) at Undertone in Cardiff. Last week’s hot-pick Galcher Lustwerk continues his tour of the UK, and hopefully samples the delights of Welsh cakes, bara brith and the city’s famous chippie lane, with a headline set alongside residents Ben Hunter and Chris Thomas.
