GREAT NEWS GUYS. Come Saturday, January’s over and it’s time to get back on the fun bus. For those of you that did Dry January, we salute you. And for those of you that didn’t, you’ve now got double the amount of friends to go and get drunk with. Basically – February’s a win/win situation for everyone. The only problem is – what to do first; splash out on food or drink?
Here’s four of Britain’s best newest places to drink, dine and get merry at.
OSLO, London
Food, drinks *and *a club? Props to the mad genius that thought this one up. Situated up in Hackney – in an old rail station no less – OSLO is east London’s best new venue. It’s got food menu that features East End favourites with Nordic twists, a bar packed full of locally brewed craft ales and a musical line-up that sees everyone from Shlohmo and Peggy Sue on the stage to the likes of Andy Blake and Chrome Hoof on the decks.
Volta, Manchester
Launched by two chaps who’ve been on Manchester’s music scene for nigh on 20 years now, Volta – which opened just before Christmas – is Manchester’s (or the up-and-coming West Didsbury if we're being specific) one-stop shop for a European approach to drinking and dining. As founder Justin Crawford told Mancunian Matters, 'The best food is found in bars where you can drink all night too.'
Rare, Leeds
Not since Damien Hirst’s mental formaldehyde cow and chicken in London’s Tramshed has bovine restaurant art (is that a thing?) caused such a buzz. RARE in Leed’s giant taxidermy cow has definitely got people talking, but luckily it's the food and drink in this upstairs bar/downstairs steak restaurant that’s got people staying.
Boom Burger, London
The burger trend’s not going anywhere this year guys, with new burger joints popping up left right and centre. For something with a twist though, check out Boom Burgerin London’s Notting Hill opening 19th February serving Jamaican burgers to the strains of Reggae music alongside a bar serving what else? Rum.
