Ah, Easter. The blossoming of daffodils, four days off work, and the consumption of ten thousand eggs that leaves you in a chocolate coma on the sofa for the entire long weekend.
Thanks to the pandemic, for the past two years many of us have been unable to spend Easter with our families which makes this year’s celebrations particularly special. But just when is this magical time hopping into our calendars?
It’s pretty hard to keep track of which date Easter falls on because it changes every year. And With egg hunts and bonnet decorating on the agenda, there can be a lot to organise. So, get these days in your diary before Spring sneaks up on you.
When is Easter 2022?
This year, Easter Sunday falls on Sunday 17 April. That’s almost two weeks later than last year when we celebrated on April 4.
For most parents in the UK, April 17 falls at the end of the school holidays. So, there’s plenty of opportunity for engineering an extravagant egg hunt with your family or friends.
And Easter covers much more than one day as we also get a bank holiday on Good Friday (April 15) and Easter Monday (April 18). We can hear boozy brunch calling already.
Why is Easter on a different day every year?
Easter sends our diaries into chaos and falls on a different date every year because it’s now calculated using the solar, Gregorian calendar rather than a lunar one. So as the full moon happens on a different date every year, Easter does as well.
In fact, Easter Sunday can move dates by as much as a month and jump from the end of March to the end of April. So, keeping track is almost harder than organising a date for dinner in your group chat.
