As Georgia Toffolo is freed from detainment, people are asking why Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is still in Iranian prison.

As you’ve probably heard, Toff (aka Georgia Toffolo of I'm A Celebrity... fame) took to Instagram and Twitter yesterday to ask her fans for help, as she was being detained at Male airport in the Maldives, following issues with her passport, which was missing two middle pages.

Thankfully for Toff, her wishes were answered and she is now safely on her way to enjoy the festive period, rather than spending Christmas Day in a detention centre.

Toff’s experience has, however, drawn assessment and criticism from various factions, with some even alleging that Toff’s speedy release may have been expedited by her friendship with Boris Johnson’s father Stanley, or her connections to the Tory party.

In fairness, Toff did appreciate her good fortune, taking to Instagram after the issue was resolved to acknowledge that having a large social media following was a ‘privilege’ and asking what would have happened to another ‘girl’ who was in the same situation but without the same resources.

None the less, people on Twitter have been quick to ask why Toff’s frightening but brief experience was so radically different from that of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who has been held by the Iranian government since 2016.

The answer, in short, is that their cases are completely different - spying allegations against Nazanin, versus Toff's incomplete passport - and involve totally different countries. Cases like Toff’s are traditionally dealt with at a consular level and resolved with speed. Still, the contrast in how Toff’s issue was handled, compared to Nazanin's ongoing suffering in detainment, has rankled.

According to Iranian state media, Nazanin was denied conditional release yesterday by the government.

While her case doesn't actually share much in common with Toff's, it can't be a bad thing to be reminded that the British-Iranian mother-of-one is still not free.

If you would like to help Nazanin, you can sign the Amnesty International petition, and sign her husband Richard’s [Change.org petition here.](https://www.change.org/p/free-nazanin-ratcliffeatcliffe) You can also write to your MP and let them know how important aiding Nazanin is to you as a constituent.
