In news which is surprising to no-one, Thomas Markle, Meghan Markle's estranged dad, is making himself the centre of attention... Yet again.
Earlier this week, Thomas - who permanently damaged his relationship with his daughter as she claimed he lied about speaking to the press - told GB News that he would be flying over to the UK for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June. In the same interview, he also said that he wanted to meet Prince Charles to thank him for walking his daughter down the aisle when she got married to Prince Harry back in 2018. (The chances of the pair meeting? We reckon it's slim, to be honest.)
'I'm looking forward to it [flying over for the Jubilee],' he said. 'I'm going to show my respect for the Queen and I'm going to make sure that the Queen understands that my entire family respects the Queen and the Royals. We admire them and we want them to know that's how we feel about them and that's how we feel about England.'
OK so, apart from 'paying his respects' - which we have doubts about - why is he coming? It's not as if the royal family will have personally extended him an invitation. It's more likely just to make a point, in case Meghan and Harry don't travel over for the Queen's 70th anniversary celebrations. In an interview with NBC, the prince said he was keen - but that there were 'security issues and everything else' which he had to sort.
Even Thomas said in the interview he doesn't think the couple will show up if he does. Which, by the way, is totally understandable. Why would Meghan want to attend if he was? Thomas, and Meghan's half-sister Samantha, have never shied away from publicly slating Meghan. And what they forget is that Meghan does not owe them a relationship - particularly after the vitriol they have shown her, and the money they have made from doing so.
But what most people will agree on is that the Jubilee isn't a chance for Thomas Markle to make headlines. It's not even about Harry and Meghan, and whether they'll turn up. It's about the Queen, celebrating 70 years on the throne. And Thomas Markle can't change that, by trying to make it all about him.
