Many of us are trying to do good as the coronavirus pandemic continues the lives of vulnerable people even more difficult. Now, the Duke of Sussex is continuing his own efforts. Days after it was revealed that he and his wife Meghan had delivered supplies to a shelter in California, Harry has recorded a podcast urging more veterans to volunteer to help too.
Speaking with the Declassified podcast featuring the work of organisation Team Rubicon, Harry – who recently relocated to the US and his in lockdown with Meghan and son Archie, spoke of the positive impact of his work in the military. ‘The life experiences that you get in such a short space of time not only grow you up, but they make, and turn you into what I think is an exceptional human being’, he said. ‘You represent something, you represent a community, you represent a certain set of values, and I believe that those values will be with you for the rest of your life and you want to do everything you can to give back.’
Harry is not the only royal to be doing his bit. William and Kate have been working from home at Anmer Cottage in Norfolk, keeping in contact with their charities and having video meetings in lieu of public appearances.
Harry echoed the sentiment of the whole country by paying tribute to the NHS.
‘I want to say a huge thank you, as we all do, to the NHS workers and everybody that's volunteering. Because up and down the UK, there are literally hundreds of thousands of people volunteering... It's such a wonderfully British thing that we all come to help when we need it.’
He also gave a nod to Captain Tom Moore, who has raised millions for the NHS. ‘I think what he's done is utterly amazing, but it’s not just what he's done it’s the reaction that people have had as well, I think is just wonderfully British.’
The podcast is available from 8.00am on April 19th on all major podcast platforms includingAudioboom.
