Britney Spears has revealed her first project as a free woman since the conservatorship that controlled her life for 13 years was dissolved.
In true Britney nature, she shared an elusive announcement on her Instagram, stating that she just shot a movie, and that she might ‘go quiet from time to time’. The picture uploaded features a cat enjoying a glass of wine - of which, no one has any clue about said cats relevance - but you might recognise the cat as the TikTok-famous Stepan, a cat-slash-influencer known for zoning out to dramatic tunes beside a beverage.
'Just shot a movie titled “THE IDOL“ … it’s guaranteed to have hits and a lot bright pics to put in my beautiful family’s faces', Britney wrote on Instagram. 'I hope you guys are having a merry ole jolly time cause I sure am !!!! If I go quiet from time to time, you can catch me with this cat somewhere.'
Fans have understandably erupted in excitement with the top comment reading ‘SHE’S COMING FOR BLOOD!’. ‘This is literally the best thing ever,’ writes another fan, while another writes ‘slay them all, Britney!’
There’s also speculation of what this new film might entail, and some fans think it’s a collaboration with The Weeknd. It was reported in September that The Weeknd would be creating a six-part drama titled The Idol. So, it’s not actually a film per sai, but this could still be the project Britney is alluding to.

The series will be set against the backdrop of the music industry and has been commissioned by HBO. According to Variety, the series is centred on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol. It was previously revealed that Lily-Rose Depp would star in the series, alongside the likes of This Is Us star Melanie Liburd and Troye Sivan.
We think Britney would look great amongst this cast. And this announcement comes just over one week since she regained control of her life and career for the first time in 13 years after the termination of her conservatorship. She shared in a courtroom testimony last year that her father takes a huge amount of money from her earnings, which may have discouraged her from signing up for projects while still under the conservatorship.
We’re pleased she now has the autonomy to work on whatever she likes, and shooting an exciting series about the realities of the music industry would be the perfect project for her to embark on.
