We ground to a halt earlier when we noticed that Patrick Adams had shared a load of unseen pictures from the set of Suits. Not because we're superfans of legal dramas filmed in Canada, but because some of the photos contained our number-one-hun, Meghan Markle.
Only, having looked at the pictures for a while, we can't decide if there's something just a little bit creepy about them.
It's hard to put your finger on what makes them uncomfortable to look at. It's not as if they're bad photos - Megs isn't capable to taking a bad picture. But they're all so candid and relaxed, so clearly taken between friends a long time ago, when the idea of her being a princess would have seemed funny. They're uncensored, unguarded and natural. The opposite of the type of photos we are used to seeing of the Royal family, who pose on specific occasions, in specific poses.
To be fair to Patrick Adams, they're pictures of all the people he used to work with, and if Meghan were anyone else it would just be a nice throwback post. But she's not anyone else. She's the Duchess of Sussex and her entire image is now guarded and managed to the nth degree.
Patrick Adams did attend the royal wedding (with his wife Troian Bellisario, from Pretty Little Liars) so they're clearly still mates. But it does rather seem that a woman who has been battling her way through a media storm, being criticised for wearing the wrong nail varnish or crossing her legs, really didn't need the additional burden of her friend posting a load of pictures of her looking young, unguarded and let's face it, really hot.
It shouldn't be meaningful for a woman to post with her legs out, we all know that. But however unfair it is, controlling your public image is an obligatory part of being a royal.
The context of posting these photos also makes them uncomfortable. Patrick is just one in a long line of people to share his memories of Meghan. Her family members are also famous for it.
It seems unlikely that he could be ignorant of the painful relationship between Meghan and her father, who regularly speaks about her on television and in the media, even though she's asked him to communicate with her directly. Given that her actual family can't seem to stop talking about her and sharing privately taken photos, it might be nice if her friends did.
Meghan doesn't have Instagram anymore, since she deleted The Tig. Or if she does have an Instagram, it's secret. So she's not part of the whole photo liking-posting-sharing circle.
Of course we'll never know what goes on behind closed doors, or what Patrick's intention was in posting these unvarnished, previously unseen photos. But it does seem that on the day that her royal tour of Africa begins, Meghan should have been allowed to present the face she has chosen to the world - one that she has worked hard for - without her friend sharing snaps of who she used to be.
