A recent workshop held for social marketing saw 100 audience members crammed into a lecture hall in central London, pens at the ready, eager to learn. But where were all the men? There was only a small handful compared to an overwhelming amount of women in the room. A big indication that women are rapidly beginning to cross over from being social users to business users? We think so.
Women are paving the way in the social world. Research in America has proven that a higher percentage of women are on social than men. It’s also proved that we’re more open to sharing personal information about our lives, because (perhaps in an almost voyeuristic sense) we just love to see what everyone else is up to. We really do care that Sarah down the street just changed jobs (although we draw the line at the 3rd Candy Crush notification, obviously.) Perhaps this intrinsic ‘caring for sharing’ is what’s causing a surge in women thriving in social media marketing.
As we become more and more interested in the research, analytics, and the engagement process, we’re learning how to turn these skills into hard money and flourishing business ideas. Social media is such an accessible platform, free for anyone with internet access to use, and these women are proving how social savvy and prowess can really turn aspirations into a viable career…

One of the Kardashian-clan had to make the list, right? And it seems that the baby of the family has really taken Instagram under her wing. She is the social generation, and she’s harnessed her mass following to propel her into a successful entrepreneur as Founder of Kylie Cosmetics. Her global Lip Kit launch sold out within ten minutes, crashing her site, and it’s been a recurrence every time more stock comes in. Clever Jenner has started releasing her Lip Kit launch dates on her app now, which shock, you have to pay for. But with a staggering 58.9m followers, she only needs a handful of them to buy into it and it’s worth it.

Kayla is a fitness coach from Australia. Her envy-enducing ab selfies sent social media into a frenzy, and Kayla saw the business opportunity after using her social platforms to communicate with her followers. She launched an e-book workout plan so that her fans could sculpt their way into looking just like her, and now she’s touring the world giving fitness classes. They fill up fast though - spaces are coveted.

Zoey Sugg tapped into a market that few vloggers had targeted, and did so extremely successfully. If you haven’t heard of her, where have you been?! Using social media to share all aspects of her life in a tone of voice aimed at pre-teens, she’s amassed such an obsessive and loyal following that she has gone on to capitalise out of book deals, cosmetic ranges and even has a waxwork of herself in Tussaudes. She has created a brand out of herself, and officially made it to celeb status after appearing on Celebrity Bake Off. She’s officially a social star.

Founder of NastyGal, Sophia avidly uses her social accounts to promote all aspects of her brand. In fact, she does more than that - she gives the brand a relatable face to associate it with. Every aspect the edgy cool-girl we would expect the founder to be, she’s now written a bestselling book #GirlBoss about her company, which is set to become the next big Netflix series. Excited? Follow Sophia, you’ll no doubt hear it all from her first…

The proclaimed Queen of Balayage in London, Samantha Cusick is gaining a fast following for her incredible before ‘n’ after balayage snaps, giving us mere mortals the hopes that our hair could possibly, one day, be magnificent too. She’s just left her job to launch her own salon – we hear the waiting list’s pretty long already though….

Samantha started the scene on Youtube as a fashion blogger. She’s harnessed her social platforms, particularly Instagram and Snapchat, to really draw in a larger following. And she recently took the step to launch her own clothing line alongside her boyfriend Jason Davis. The line, Novem and Knight, seems to market itself almost entirely through social media, and has amassed over 50k followers with key line pieces selling out quickly. Now there’s a power couple.

Sam Chapman makes the list for being the OV (Original Vlogger). Sam was vlogging makeup tutorials before it was cool, when Youtube had only just started. You could even say that Sam Chapman created the Beauty Vlogging industry. For that, we salute you. Plus, those Real Techniques makeup brushes everyone uses? All thanks to the Chapman sisters following their social success. Bows down.
