As Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his selected Vice President Kamala Harris have officially won the election, actor and comedian Maya Rudolph is no doubt preparing for a busy four years ahead.
Why? Maya won an Emmy for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series for her portrayal of Kamala during the Democratic Presidential debates on the US sketch-show Saturday Night Live (SNL). We're hoping there's a lot more where that came from now.
You'd be forgiven for thinking Donald Trump is more ripe for satire, considering he threw his toys out of the pram and demanded the vote counting stops, but the prospect of more of Maya's Kamala excited fans the moment she was announced as Biden's running mate in August.
The actor reacted to the news with pure surprise in the middle of an Entertainment Weekly panel. 'That's spicy,' she said, before adding, 'Oh shit. Ruh-roh.'
When asked if she'd be reprising her role on the series, she said: 'I love going to the show any excuse I can get...I just didn't really anticipate traveling during this pandemic, but if there's anyone who can work it out I'm sure Lorne [Michaels] has some kind of invisible helicopter that can get me there.'
The actor has hilariously portrayed the senator as ‘America’s cool aunt’ and a ‘smooth-talking lady lawyer,’ as well as a politician keen to land a talked-about moment that could be shared as a GIF.
Now, with Kamala Harris and Joe Biden moving into the White House they can practically smell Trump's fake tan-stained bedsheets, everyone is getting excited all over again.
To celebrate the good news for SNL fans everywhere, let’s revisit some of Maya's best Kamala moments and memes. We can't wait for what's (hopefully) to come. Maybe 2020 wont be completely awful after all?
