'I have the best advice for women in business. Get your f**king ass up and work.'

Kim Kardashian has sparked outrage with a comment she made in an interview with Variety. Giving her advice to the masses, the billionaire mogul, 41, said: 'I have the best advice for women in business. Get your f**king ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days.’ (Her sister, Kourtney, who previously said how she found Keeping Up With The Kardashians a 'toxic enivornment', agreed with the sentiment.)

And yep, those comments about getting your 'ass up and working' went down as well as you'd expect. There have been many people comparing Kim to fellow influencer Molly-Mae Hague, 'we all have the same 24 hours in a day' to achieve success.

As was pointed out when former Love Islander Molly-Mae made these comments, this type of rhetoric, that you can achieve anything if you really work hard enough has historically been used to invalidate the struggles of people in poverty, or who others who unfair barriers due to race, sexuality, gender or disability.

Also, it goes without saying that influencing, running huge businesses or maintaining an unattainable level of beauty are less taxing than some of the lowest paid jobs. Most people would probably like their work a lot more if it was more similar to the glossy life Kim leads.

Another of the reasons the comments have annoyed so many is because Kim was born into immense privilege - and happened to be the daughter of Kris Jenner, who, as probably the world's most successful 'momager', is pivotal to her success. Most people do not have that kind of support, or money, behind them.

However, one person the words really stung for was beauty journalist Jessica DeFino, who used to work for the Kardashian Hollywood game app. And if what Jessica is saying is true, then it makes what Kim has said particularly tone-deaf and hypocritical. 'I was an editor on the Kardashian apps in 2015 in LA, worked days nights & weekends, could only afford groceries from the 99 Cents Only Store, called out “sick” more than once bc I couldn’t put gas in my car to get to the office, & was reprimanded for freelancing on the side ❤️,' she sarcastically tweeted.

One thing is for sure: maybe influencers should think next time before they tell us to work harder?
