If 2021 will be known for one thing, it’ll be the year a very public Civil War broke out among senior royals. Following an explosive interview with Oprah earlier in the year, in which Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, made a series of very public accusations against other members of the family — including racist behaviour towards his wife, Meghan Markle{ =nofollow}, Duchess and Sussex — relations have been frosty to say the least.

And so the latest news thatHarry is planning to release what the publisher, Penguin RandomHouse, is calling a 'literary memoir,' which, he says, he will be writing, 'not as the Prince I was born, but as the man I have become.' Sound salacious to you? Yes, to us too.

The book is likely to draw a huge audience, which is probably why it’s drawn a huge advance of $20m (£14m), which Harry says he’ll donate to charity. The book, expected to be released late next year, is expected to further exacerbate difficult relations between Harry and his family, and will be ghost written by JR Moehringer, an American novelist and journalist.

With all the speculation that is surrounding this announcement, we all want to know more about JR. What sort of book is he likely to write? And how much is he being paid for all this? We’ve got all the info below.

Who is he?

Moehringer was born in New York and raised by his mother. He started his writing career as a news assistant at the New York Times and in 1994 joined the Los Angeles Times. In 2000 he won a Pulitzer Prize for features journalism after being nominated for the second time. He has shifted more into book-writing since, publishing his own memoir, The Tender Bar, in 2005.

What has he written before?

Moehringer has published both fiction and non-fiction, and has previously written the memoirs of both the American businessman and Nike co-founder, Philip Knight (Shoe Dog), and tennis star, Andre Agassi (Open) — so I guess you could say he’s pretty experienced in this field. His novel, Sutton, was based on the life of a famous bank robber, Willie Sutton, and was described by the New York Times as 'sentimental.' OK, we get it, he likes writing profiles of high-profile men, basically.

What will he bring to the book?

A widely reported facet of Moehringer’s previous work has been a focus on what the press have called “daddy issues.” This is probably not great news for Prince Charles, who Harry has previously accused of not answering his calls following the Duke and Duchesses move to the US.

How does he know Harry?

Word on the street is that he was introduced to Harry by George Clooney (as you do), who is currently directing the film adaptation of Tender Bar, starring Ben Affleck, which will be released next year.

Is he likely to piss off the Royals?

I mean, it looks that way, yes. Given how they reacted to the Oprah interview (pretty negatively) and that they are notoriously private, it is expected that the book will cause a stir at the Palace. The Telegraph reported that the Royal Family wasn’t told about the announcement ahead of time, and after watching a lot of series of The Crown, we all know how little the Palace likes to be caught by surprise. Given how high profile the book is and Moehringer’s relationship with the film industry, an adaptation on the big screen can’t be ruled out. BRB, we’re just grabbing the popcorn.
