There is nothing quite so heart-rending as losing a dog, which is why our hearts went out to newlyweds Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner whose dog died in a car accident last Wednesday.
Waldo Picasso was sadly killed when he broke free of his lead with his dog walker in Manhattan. The Alaskan Klee Kai ran into traffic where he was hit by a car and passed away. TMZ reported that 'the dog got spooked by a pedestrian, broke free, ran into the street and was struck by a vehicle'.
Sophie and Joe only got Waldo - who has his own Instagram account - just over a year ago in 2018. Following his death, the couple commemorated his passing with matching tattoo's of Waldo's face complete with his distinctive different-coloured eyes. Joe Jonas captioned his 'R.I.P my little angel' while Sophie Turner shared her version on Instagram stories.
Are you feeling emotional? Join the rest of us - this is truly terrible news for an already mournful and rainy Tuesday. But Waldo Picasso isn't the only celebrity doggo that sadly passed away this week (what's happening - is Mercury in retrograde again?).
Yesterday Jennifer Aniston waved goodbye to her dog, Dolly, who she co-owned with her ex Justin Theroux. The couple re-united for Dolly's passing, with Justin writing on his Instagram 'Tonight, at sunset, after a heroic struggle... our most loyal family member and protector, Dolly A. laid down her sword and shield. She was surrounded by her entire family.' beneath several pictures of their adopted white Shepherd-mix.
He continued 'The one that never deserts, the one that never proves ungrateful... is the dog— faithful and true, even in death - George Vest. Rest In Peace Dolly #adoptdontshop #rescuedog' Jennifer and Justin saw off Dolly with a beautiful ceremony, scattering the rescue dog's body in flowers and wrapping her body in a blanket, proving themselves to be shining examples of the benefits of having a mature relationship with your ex(especially important when co-parenting of a dog is involved).
While it's been a terrible week for celebrity dog deaths (somebody protect Barbara Streisands pups - quickly) there is some slightly more positive pooch news: Downing Street have confirmed that Boris Johnson and Carrie Symmonds are planning to get a dog when they move into their new home.
10.Downing Street already has a resident cat called Larry, who, it's been stressed, the new canine addition to the family will have to get on with. An inside source told The Sun 'It wouldn’t be a puppy. It would probably be a rescue dog. It would have to be a cat and dog that got along.' but Battersea dogs home have been quick to publish a list of dogs available for Boris to adopt, and they've even offered to step in to act as peace negotiators between Larry and Boris and Carrie's new addition.
We hope No.10 has a big garden...
