Every so often, JK Rowling treats her loyal twitter fans to a little bit of Harry Potter trivia and yesterday she was at it again, this time revealing her all-time favourite character, minus Harry of course – that’d just be a bit of a cop-out.

Who was it? It was Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, naturally.

She didn’t exactly come forth with any gushing sentiments about why he’s her fave, but really it should be obvious. Other than having the best name (with Filius Flitwick a close second IMO), he is kind, caring, selfless and wise with a wry sense of humour and a penchant for sherbet lemons – what’s not to love?

A source of wisdom on all things magic, and probably in possession of some really good beard-maintenance tips, Dumbledore cared deeply about Harry and for most of the series was basically the only person able to hold Hogwarts together. It would take a cold, cold soul not to be moved by his final moments at the end of The Half-Blood Prince.

During her twitter Q&A session, she also answered some questions about everyone’s soon-to-be favourite magizoologist, Newt Scamander – who’ll be played by Eddie Redmayne in the upcoming film, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

So now we know. Time to sit back and eagerly await the next couple of Harry Potter instalments – The Cursed Child opens at the Palace Theatre London in July and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them premieres in November.
