Imagine you've just paid £18 for a lipstick and you opened it to discover that it's come with a 'free gift.' Some hair. Yes - actual hair.
You'd be less than pleased, right?
Jaclyn Hill, the Youtube beauty guru who boasts 6.2 million Instagram followers and 5.9 million Youtube subscribers, has now been forced to return to social media to address a tidal wave of criticism and Twitter-drag after fans who purchased lipsticks from her new cosmetics line (which was launched on the 30th of May) have widely reported defects and even allergic reactions in the products.
In a Youtube video - her first social media activity in a month - Jaclyn said that while she was 'terrified' to address the controversy and had been advised against speaking about it on her channel 'I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I am not.'
We're not really sure where Kurt Cobain comes into this...but ok?
Going on, she admitted to having been too confident in pushing the line out and that she hadn't been involved in the quality control of the products.
As for the images that disgruntled Twitter users have been posting? Well, lets just say that they're pretty stomach-churning. Some close-ups of the lipsticks clearly show that they have mould or tiny holes in them - while others appear to have hairs in the product. (Disclaimer: if you're a trypophobia sufferer you're going to want to look away now.)
Yep. We feel pretty strongly about not wanting to put these anywhere near our lips or in the vicinity of our faces at all too.
That's not the only thing the lipsticks are being criticized for: insider.com reported that some people have experienced reactions to the lipstick, causing their lips to become swollen and covered in bumps.
Meanwhile others took to Twitter to complain that the products had arrived damaged and broken, or that they crumbled within the first use. A petition which reached 13,000 signatures was launched on Change.org calling for the products to be recalled.
Suffice to say this isn't much of an advert for Jaclyn Hill's products. That said, if you are looking for a new lipstick, we've got you covered.
